Pune, 18th March 2023: In a meeting held in Mumbai on Friday, Chief Minister Eknath Shinde and Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis ordered the Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority (PMRDA) to immediately pay approximately Rs 200 crore to the Pune Mahanagar Parivahan Mahamandal Limited (PMPML) for providing transportation services in the PMRDA area.

Currently, PMPML operates 477 buses daily to provide transport services in the PMRDA area, incurring an expense of Rs 188 crore per month. The PMPML had been pursuing the PMRDA to obtain payment for the 2021-22 financial year, but there was no decision on the matter until now. The Chief Minister and Deputy Chief Minister’s orders ensure that PMPML’s bus services will continue to operate in the PMRDA area.

The meeting was attended by Guardian Minister Chandrakant Patil, MLA Siddharth Shirole, Madhuri Misal, PMRDA Commissioner Rahul Mahiwal, and PMPML Managing Director Omprakash Bakoria.

During the meeting, Shirole asked the Chief Minister to ensure that both Municipal Corporations (PMC and PCMC) make financial provisions in their respective budgets, considering the potential losses that PMPML may incur in the coming years. A comprehensive review will be conducted, and the matter will be discussed further. PMPML centers will be established at three locations in the PMRDA area, which will lead to the expansion of the bus services in this region.
