Pune, 5th August 2020: Mundhwa police station under Pune city police has registered a complaint against a landlord and his two family members for physically assaulting a tenant over the issue of non-payment of rent.

A complaint has been registered against Devendra Suresh Bhat, Suresh Bhat and Nargis Bhat. The complainant is Roshan Suresh Parate (26) who has alleged that the trio assaulted him.

Roshan and his mother had been living as tenants since the past four to five years. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic and the lockdown, Roshan couldn’t afford to pay the rent of the house. He also did not pay the electricity bills for four months which now amount to Rs 14,000.

Mundhwa police officials said that the complaint has been registered and suitable action will be taken after the investigation.

According to the guidelines issued by the government, they had appealed landlords not to trouble the tenants for rent during the three month lockdown period.
