Bavdhan, 25th October 2023: The ambitious Chandni Chowk transformation project, aimed at alleviating traffic congestion and costing Rs 865 crores, is facing scrutiny as dangerous potholes have emerged on the road less than a year after its inauguration by Union Minister Nitin Gadkari on August 12. Supriya Sule, NCP MP from the Sharad Pawar group, raised concerns about the road’s condition, questioning the efficacy of the project.

Taking to Twitter, Supriya Sule expressed her concern, stating, “A pothole has appeared on the new road from Chandni Chowk to Mulshi. NHAI needs to inspect this work. This situation arises not even a year after the road’s inauguration. Such road conditions pose a serious risk to passenger safety. A matter of great concern.”

The infrastructure and road development project spans 16.98 km, encompassing all lanes on National Highway No. 48 at NDA Chowk in Pune. The project, costing Rs 865 crores, aimed to create a seamless and traffic-free road network in the area. It involved reducing the Pune-Satara highway to six lanes, completing internal and external service roads, and constructing eight different routes.

Despite the project’s grand scale and promises of traffic relief in Chandni Chowk, concerns are arising about the road’s quality. The persistent traffic congestion in the area, even after the project’s completion, has fueled discontent among residents. Ongoing works in the vicinity are exacerbating the traffic situation, painting a picture of subpar construction for the newly developed roads.
