Pune, 19th August 2022: Congress party has opposed the proposal for a well-equipped 700 beds hospital at Warje. Congress claims that the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) is putting crores of rupees down the throats of private medical professionals in the name of providing low-cost healthcare facilities to poor patients.

The Congress office bearers also warned of agitation that the commissioner misused the post of the administrator. The standing committee and general body approved the construction of the proposed hospital at Warje in February 2022.

Ten thousand square feet of land will be made available by the PMC. A private organisation will build the hospital based on “Design, Build, Finance, Operate, Transfer” and for this, the municipal corporation will take a loan of Rs 350 crores from Netherlands RaboBank at 1.5 percent interest rates.

It has been claimed by the health department that it will be paid for by the institution, and the citizens will get health facilities at a modest rate in this hospital. However, this proposal is opposed as there will be no benefit to the common Pune residents at the hospital, which is being built at the cost of crores of rupees. The in-charge city president of the Congress, Arvind Shinde, has given a memorandum to commissioner Vikram Kumar in this regard.

The municipality will develop a plot worth crores of rupees for a private medical practitioner at its own expense. It has been mentioned in this memorandum that this is wrong and the decision is not being taken against the Pune people in the name of providing health facilities at a low cost.
