Pune: Construction Of An Alternative Road At Chandni Chowk To Road Leading To Satara
Pune, 22nd September 2022: The hill at Hotel Banjara Hills is being demolished to make an alternative road to the route from Mumbai to Satara at Chandni Chowk. On Wednesday (September 21), controlled explosions were carried out to execute this work immediately. The old bridge in Chandni Chowk will be demolished like the twin towers in Noida. However, the highway will have to be closed for a few hours.
An alternative road is under construction by the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) to continue the traffic towards Satara during the breaking of the bridge. For that, the hill is being broken with the help of JCB and Poclain.
The officials explained, “However, it is costing more time. Hence, to carry out this work urgently, a low-intensity tunnel was used to break the rock. This will help in making the alternative road faster.”
Meanwhile, the traffic will be disrupted for 12 to 15 hours after the demolition of the old bridge at Chandni Chowk. At present only one alternative route is available to reach Mulshi, Bavdhan, Mumbai via Kothrud, Satara road. However, there is no alternative road available for vehicles going to Kothrud, Satara from Mumbai, Mulshi, Pashan and Bavdhan.
The administration also clarified that if this traffic is diverted through a single route, it will lead to traffic congestion, so it is impossible to demolish the bridge without creating an alternative route.
