Pune: Court Orders Release Of Sambhaji Brigade Leader Arrested For Threatening To Stop Flag Hoisting On Independence Day
Pune 16th August 2023: The local court in Pune on Tuesday passed an order to release the Sambhaji Brigade leader from Pimpri Chinchwad who was arrested for threatening to stop flag hoisting by the politicians and governor of Maharashtra while demanding action against hindutva leader Sambhaji Bhide who had made an objectionable remark against Mahatma Gandhi.
Satish Kale, the president of Sambhaji Brigade organisation’s Pimpri Chinchwad unit was arrested by the police after he shared a video on social media platform and said that he and members of his organisation will not let the flag hoisting event happen by the ministers and governor of Maharashtra on the occasion of Independence Day. Soon after the video was shared, the police detained him on the intervening night of August 14 and 15. He was produced before the court by police while seeking his judicial custody for 15 days.
However, the court rejected the police’s demand and ordered his release while directing Kale to give undertaking that he will not use his instagram account for the next 10 days. The court also stated in the order that the flag hoisting event was already completed and it was wrong to detain Kale in custody on the basis of mere probabilities.
The Wakad police of Pimpri Chinchwad while seeking the remand had mentioned that various programs are being organised under ‘Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav’ celebration between August 9 and August 30 following the directives of the government. Ministers and members of the government are likely to visit the city to attend these programs and hence the accused must be sent to judicial custody for the next 15 days. However, the court refused their remand for custody while saying that he cannot be kept in the custody based on probabilities.
