Camp, 30th August 2023: The Pune Cantonment Court denied the bail application of Shailaja Ramchandra Darade, the former Commissioner of Maharashtra State Examination Council, in a case involving the fraudulent activity that affected 44 individuals, resulting in a loss of Rs 5 crore. The decision was handed down on Wednesday.

A case has been registered at the Hadapsar police station against Shailaja Ramchandra Darade, a resident of Pashan, along with her brother, Dadasaheb Ramchandra Darade of Indapur. The case revolves around charges of cheating people under the pretense of offering employment opportunities. The complaint was lodged by Popat Sukhdev Suryavanshi of Khanjodwadi in Atpadi, Sangli.

The incident came to light on August 7 when Shailaja was apprehended by the police. Subsequently, she was remanded to police custody as ordered by the court.

The public prosecutor vehemently opposed Darade’s plea for bail, emphasizing the gravity of the offence and the ongoing nature of the investigation. “Granting bail to Darade could potentially impede the investigation’s progress.” The public prosecutor underscored this stance during the proceedings, firmly requesting that bail be denied.

After considering the arguments put forth by the government’s legal team, Judicial Magistrate (First Class) DJ Patil ruled in favor of their stance and dismissed Darade’s bail application.

The complainant and one of his female relatives aspired to secure a teaching position. The series of events began in June 2019 when Suryavanshi encountered Dadasaheb Darade, the accused, while making inquiries at various places. Dadasaheb claimed that his sister, Shailaja Darade, held a position within the education department. Assured by this information, Dadasaheb assured Suryavanshi that he would arrange teaching positions for two of his female relatives. Under false pretenses, Dadasaheb managed to coax Rs 27 lakhs from them in Hadapsar. Despite the passage of several months, the promised positions were never materialized, and Suryavanshi’s requests for a refund went unanswered.

Subsequent investigations revealed a more extensive scheme, uncovering that Darade had duped a total of 44 individuals, amassing a staggering five crore rupees, by falsely offering them positions within various government departments.
