Pune Court Remands 2 Terror Suspects In Police Custody

Pune, 3rd June 2022: Special Sessions Judge Satyanarayana Navandar has remanded Mohammad Junaid Mohammad of Dapodi and his accomplice Aftab Hussain Shah (28), a resident of Kishtwar, Jammu and Kashmir arrested by the Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) on suspicion of having links with Lashkar-e-Taiba terrorist organization.

 

Mohammad Junaid has been remanded in police custody till June 7 and Aftab till June 14. ATS suspect that Aftab, who was arrested from Kashmir, is a link between Junaid and Lashkar-e-Taiba.

 

Junaid was arrested by the ATS in May. The team then conducted a search operation at various places in Kargil, Gandharbal, Srinagar area. Accordingly, Aftab was arrested in Kishtwar, 291 km from Srinagar. Aftab was produced before a local court, which granted him a three-day transit remand and remanded him to ATS custody.

 

It has been revealed that both the suspects were recruiting members for the Lashkar-e-Taiba terrorist organization, providing financial support, training to operate ammunition and weapons. It is suspected that they did recce of the Defense Forces establishment and important places including religious places for the security of the country.

 

ATS Assistant Commissioner of Police Arun Waykar submitted to the court that further investigation is going on to nab other wanted accused in the case.

 

“Junaid operated many social media handles. We have seized many documents, SIM cards and documents”, he added.
