Camp, 4th June 2025: The Judicial Magistrate First Class (JMFC) Court in Pune Cantonment has convicted Praveen Mohan Karkal, proprietor of Tirumala Management Services, for violating provisions of the Employees’ Provident Funds and Miscellaneous Provisions Act, 1952. The court sentenced him to simple imprisonment and imposed a fine of ₹3,000.

According to the Employees’ Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO), Karkal failed to provide mandatory service records and personal details of employees engaged through his manpower agency, despite being issued repeated notices. The EPFO subsequently filed a prosecution case in 2015 against Karkal in the JMFC Court, Cantonment.

After due legal proceedings, the court found Karkal guilty of defaulting under the Act and delivered the sentence accordingly.

Commenting on the judgment, Amit Vashist, Regional Provident Fund Commissioner, Pune, urged employers to strictly comply with EPF regulations. “Employers should ensure timely submission of employee records to avoid prosecution and legal hardships,” he said.

The conviction highlights the importance of statutory compliance by employers and contractors handling outsourced workforce.
