Pune, 4th June 2025: To tackle the growing demand for driving license tests and reduce delays, the Pune Regional Transport Office (RTO) has announced the opening of three new driving test centers at Hadapsar, Alandi Road, and Dive Ghat near Saswad. The move aims to decongest the heavily burdened Bhosari-based Institute of Driving Training and Research (IDTR) and make license testing more accessible to citizens across the Pune region.

According to Swapnil Bhosale, Deputy Regional Transport Officer, “The number of applicants in Pune remains consistently high, and our current infrastructure is falling short. These new sensor-equipped centers will significantly cut down waiting times and streamline the testing process.”

Current Challenges
As of now, the city’s testing system operates under significant strain:

Learner’s license applicants must visit the Sangamwadi RTO.

Two-wheeler permanent licenses are tested at the Phulenagar RTO on Alandi Road.

Four-wheeler and heavy vehicle applicants are directed to the IDTR center in Bhosari, which conducts automated, sensor-based tests.

With both Pune and Pimpri-Chinchwad applicants relying on Bhosari’s IDTR, this has led to long wait times, booking delays, and day-long queues.

The New Centers
The upcoming test centers at Hadapsar, Alandi Road, and Dive Ghat are currently being equipped with modern sensor-based tracks and upgraded facilities. Once operational, they will:

Reduce reliance on Bhosari’s IDTR

Decrease appointment backlogs and wait times

Improve accessibility for applicants in eastern and southern Pune

Enhance the overall speed and efficiency of license issuance

What This Means for Applicants
Thousands of residents who previously had to travel long distances for tests — often facing delays due to appointment bottlenecks — can now expect faster service and more convenient locations.

The RTO has yet to announce the official opening dates for these centers, but infrastructure work is already underway.
