Shirur, 2nd November 2024: In a disturbing incident in Kendur village of Shirur taluka, an altercation over a land dispute escalated into violence when a man allegedly attempted to run over his cousin with a car. The police have registered a case against Vinayak Sadashiv Thite and nine accomplices in connection with the incident.

The victim, Rajendra Nathu Thete, who hails from Kendur, suffered serious injuries in the collision and is currently receiving treatment at a private hospital in Shikrapur. Rajendra, who works in Shikrapur on Nagar Road, has ancestral agricultural land in Kendur. About seven to eight months ago, he began construction on the land after demolishing an old house. In the process, he relocated an electricity meter from the old house and placed it near a purple tree on the property.

On November 1, when Rajendra and his family—his wife Anita, son Akash, and daughter Pratibha—returned to their village home, they discovered a letter placed near the relocated meter. When Rajendra attempted to remove the meter to relocate it, he was confronted by his cousin Vinayak and several others, including Vinayak’s wife, Vrishali, and their relatives.

Witnesses report that Vinayak and his group verbally assaulted Rajendra, claiming ownership of the land, and physically attacked him for trying to move the letter. Pratibha recorded the assault on her mobile phone, but the accused pushed her and seized the device during the confrontation. Following the altercation, Rajendra and his family left the scene, but Vinayak pursued them in his car.

In a shocking turn of events, Vinayak allegedly struck Rajendra from behind with his vehicle, attempting to run him over. In a desperate move, Rajendra climbed onto the bonnet of the car to avoid being crushed. Rajendra has since provided a statement to the police, detailing the attack and the subsequent events.

The police are investigating the incident, and further action will be taken against the accused.
