Pune: Crime Branch Arrests Sellers Of Spurious Biodiesel Near Warje
Pune, November 15, 2020: The officials from Crime Branch Unit 3 of Pune City Police have arrested sellers of spurious biodiesel and seized two tankers and 150 litre spurious diesel, totally worth Rs 13.08 lakh.
Acting on a tip-off received by Assistant Police Inspector Shrishail Chiwadshetty on November 13, a team led by Senior Police Inspector Rajendra Mokashi conducted raids on the ground, where Amruta Travels buses are parked along the service road of the Pune-Bengaluru Highway, near Dukkar Khind in Warje. Two tankers were seized by the police.
DCP (Crime Branch) Bachchan Singh said that Indian Oil Corporation Limited’s (IOCL) Assistant Manager (Retail Sales) Nishant Gupta, who accompanied the police team, confirmed that as per preliminary inspection the said biodiesel is spurious.
“Samples have been collected for testing in the lab. The said chemical was being sold for use in buses, trucks and other vehicles, which cause harm to the environment and health of people. Further investigation is going to identify the source of the spurious diesel and also the accomplices of the accused persons”, DCP Singh informed.
Inspector Mokashi added, “An FIR has been registered with Warje police station against Bhau Pandurang Margale and his wife Alka Bhau Margale, both residents of Karvenagar. They have been charged for offences under section 285 (negligent conduct with respect to fire or combustible matter) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and relevant sections of the Essential Commodities Act. We have seized two tankers worth Rs 13 lakh and 150 litre spurious diesel worth Rs 8700.”
The action was taken under the guidance of DCP Singh and ACP (Crime 1) Surendra Deshmukh. The investigation team included Inspector Mokashi, API Chiwadshetty, Police Sub Inspector Dattatray Kale, Zanjad, ASI Anil Shinde, Deepak Mate, and police personnel Sandip Talekar, Kshirsagar, Walke, Gonte, Gaikwad, Dsouza, Kunwar, Bhalchim, Salunkhe, Rawal, Karale, Kamble and Shelar.
