Pune: CWC Assigns Responsibility for Care of Vaishnavi Hagawane’s 9-Month-Old Son

Pune, 31st May 2025: Following the tragic death of Vaishnavi Hagawane, who succumbed to the pressures of dowry harassment, the question of guardianship for her 9-month-old son has been formally addressed. With the mother no longer alive, the infant was left without parental care, raising urgent concerns about his future well-being. Vaishnavi’s husband, mother-in-law and father-in-law are in custody facing various charges.
The Child Welfare Committee (CWC) has appointed Vaishnavi’s mother, Swati Anand Kaspate, as the legal guardian responsible for the care and upbringing of the child. This decision was announced by Aditi Tatkare, Minister of Women and Child Welfare, who confirmed the appointment.
Minister Tatkare stated that after a thorough review and based on a social investigation report submitted by the District Child Protection Officer, Kaspate has been found a “fit person” to take on the responsibility. The report highlighted the grandmother’s stable social and emotional environment, as well as a supportive family setting conducive to the child’s welfare.
Henceforth, Kaspate will hold legal custody of Vaishnavi’s son and will be entrusted with ensuring his education, health, and overall development.
This appointment aims to provide the orphaned child with a secure and nurturing home environment during these critical early years.
