Pune: Woman Defrauded of Rs 7 Lakh in Matrimonial Website Scam; Police Register Case
Dhankawadi, 31st May 2025: A woman has been defrauded of ₹7.2 lakh by a man she met through a matrimonial website. The Sahakar Nagar police have registered a case against Pratik Sanjay Devre (38), resident of Jijamata Chowk, Balajinagar, Dhankawadi, following a complaint filed by the victim.
According to the police, Devre established contact with the woman via the matrimonial platform and promised lucrative returns from investments in the stock market. He allegedly took the money in installments but failed to return it or provide any profits. Upon realizing the deception, the woman approached the police.
Sub-Inspector Kale is leading the ongoing investigation.
Such fraud cases involving matrimonial websites have reportedly increased in recent months. In a related incident, a young doctor was defrauded and, distraught by the betrayal, consumed poison in Bibwewadi, leading to her death. The accused in that case, a married doctor from Sangli who hid his marital status, was arrested.
Authorities warn the public to exercise caution while interacting on matrimonial platforms and investing money based on promises made by strangers.
