Pune: Cyber Experts Required to Fight with Technological Disruptions – Dr Nitin Karmakar
Pune, August 27, 2020: In today’s scenario data security becomes more important in every sector. The use of technology in Defence, Banking, Education, Economics, Business, and other fields increased day by day. Parallelly, all the sectors facing issues of cyber attacks, hacking, and other technological disruptions. To fight these issues, we required more cyber experts, and to take this in mind the formation of this course is very important. I am very glad to inaugurate this the first batch of B.Sc in Cyber & Digital Science course at Suryadatta Group of Institutions, says Dr Nitin Karmalkar, Vice-Chancellor of Savitribai Phule Pune University.
Dr Nitin Karmalkar inaugurated B.Sc- Cyber & Digital Science Programme First Batch (2020-2023) at Suryadatta International Institute of Cyber Security (SIICS), Bavdhan, Pune-411021, which is affiliated to Savitribai Phule Pune University & Recognised by Government of Maharashtra ). In this virtual program Air Marshal Bhushan Gokhale (Retd.), Retired Vice Chief of Air Staff, Anupam Bhatnagar, General Secretary of Gesia IT Solutions, Prof. Dr Sanjay Chordia, Founder & President of Suryadatta Group of Institutes, Sachin Itkar, Advisor, Dr Shailesh Kasande, Executive Director at SGI, Prof. Dr S. Ramchandran, Prof. Dr Pratiksha Wabale, Prof. Sunil Dhadiwal and other were present.
Dr Nitin Karmalkar further said, “People not very much aware of data security and cybersecurity. It seems that in the last few years increased online frauds, Cyberattacks, hacking incidents. In the new education policy Government has taken care of solution-based education to fight against technological disruptions. A special BSc course on cybersecurity must be started in Pune. It will surely create capable cyber experts.”
Bhushan Gokhale also expressed his remarks and mentioned that need for Cyber Security and Data Security in various fields. Anupam Bhatnagar congratulated to the SGI for this great initiative towards national security. Dr Sanjay Chordia gave his opening remarks and expressed gratitude to all.
Cyber Security and Digital Science: Technology is indispensable in personal, social, organizational and even governmental functioning and development. India’s national priorities have digital as an integral aspect of all key initiatives – Digital India, smart city projects, etc. Cybersecurity includes both the technologies and processes used to protect digital devices and networks from digital attacks, hacking attempts, and unauthorized access. The Internet Crime Report of the Federal Bureau of Investigation has revealed that India stands third in the world among the top 20 countries that are victims of internet crimes. Cybersecurity Ventures predict that globally there will be 3.5 million unfilled cybersecurity jobs by 2021, up from 1 million openings in 2014. Hacking and cyberattacks are compelling firms to hire talent at a premium. There are currently around 30,000 cybersecurity vacancies in India.
Curriculum: Students will study subjects such as Computer Science and Problem Solving, Computing Devices, Mathematics, Statistical Techniques in Computer Science, C Programming, Digital Electronics, Computer Networks, Ethical Hacking, Web Designing, Python Programming, Data Base Management Systems, Data Structures, Environment Science, Soft Skills.

Typical job roles are Chief Information Security Officer, IT Director, IT Security Director, IT Manager, IT Security Manager, Security Architect/Engineer, Security Specialist, Security Consultant/Advisor, Security Analyst, Security/Compliance Officer, Security Administrator, IT Staff, Application Developer/Tester, etc. Students of B Sc Cyber and Digital Science shall be carrying out security operations, security administration, Risk assessment, analysis and management, Governance, risk management and compliance (GRC), Cloud computing security, Security and threat intelligence analysis, Security engineering and administration, Penetration testing, Intrusion detection & Network monitoring, operational technology security, secure software development, forensics.
