Pune: Cyber Thief Defrauds Woman Of Rs 60,000 Online On Pretext Of Pending Electricity Bill

Market Yard, 24th January 2023: By sending fake pending electricity bill messages, a cyber thief cheated the woman online for Rs 60,000. The incident took place on January 19 in the Market yard area of Pune.

A 52-year-old woman has lodged a complaint at the Marketyard police station in this regard.

The complainant woman lives with her family in the Market Yard area. On January 19, the cyber thief sent a message to the woman’s husband and threatened to cut the electricity supply if the electricity bill was not paid. He then asked her to pay Rs 100 on Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company Limited (MSEDCL) app to maintain the electricity supply.

Panicking, the woman downloaded the app and started depositing the amount online. While making a payment through a credit card, the cyber thief cheated the woman of Rs 60,000 through OTP. Police Inspector Savita Dhamdhere is investigating the matter.
