Deccan, 30th October 2024: The cyber squad of Deccan Police has recovered 30 stolen mobiles, worth ₹5.5 lakh, from different areas during an investigation. The police utilized the Central Equipment Identity Register (CEIR) system, available on the Department of Telecommunications website, to trace the stolen devices.

The CEIR system, managed by the Department of Telecommunications under the Central Government, allows users to block mobile numbers after filing a complaint at a police station regarding a lost or stolen phone. Additionally, users can check the status of their lost or stolen devices through this system.

A team from Deccan Police Station, including Senior Inspector Girisha Nimbalkar, Police Inspector (Crime) Prasad Raut, and Constables Uma Palve, Saroja Dewar, and Supriya Sonawane, leveraged the CEIR system to track the stolen phones.

Several lost and stolen mobile numbers were found to be active on the system. The cyber team gathered information about the users of these devices. Following this, the police contacted the individuals in possession of the stolen phones and successfully seized 30 mobile devices, valued at ₹5.5 lakh, from various districts within the span of one month.

The action was taken under the guidance of Additional CP Praveen Patil and DCP (Zone 1) Sandeep Singh Gill.
