Pune, 22nd March 2025: The family of a 34-year-old computer engineer, who lost his life in a road accident last year, has been awarded a compensation of ₹2.44 crore in a settlement finalized at the Lok Adalat on Saturday (March 22). The compensation will be paid within a year of filing the claim.

The settlement was reached in the presence of a panel comprising District and Sessions Judge B.P. Kshirsagar and Advocate Atul Gunjal, principal members of the Motor Accidents Tribunal.

The accident took place on February 4, 2024, when the computer engineer was riding a bike along Sinhagad Road with a friend. A tempo, coming from the opposite direction near Khadakwasla Dam, collided with their vehicle, leaving him critically injured. Despite being rushed to a private hospital for treatment, he succumbed to his injuries.

Following his death, his wife, mother, sister, and niece filed a claim against the tempo’s insurance company with the Motor Accidents Tribunal on April 19, 2024. The family had initially demanded ₹2.85 crore in compensation, considering his age, earnings, and dependents. The deceased engineer was earning a monthly salary of ₹1,67,333 at the time of his death.

After legal deliberations, a compromise was reached, awarding the family ₹2.44 crore. Advocates Sanjay Raut and Anita Raut represented the deceased’s family, while Advocate Sham Maheshwari defended the insurance company. Adv. Maheshwari played a key role in facilitating the settlement.
