Pimpri Chinchwad, 31st May 2023: The Wakad police have apprehended a delivery boy who had been stealing bicycles and selling them through the ‘OLX’ app.

The arrest came after Sandeep Digambar Tambe (43 years old, residing in Rahatani) filed a complaint at the Wakad Police Station.

The accused, identified as Rahul, worked as a delivery person and used his visits to housing societies to carry out his thefts. He would pretend to deliver materials to residents’ homes while keeping a close eye on bicycles within the society. When the opportunity arose, he would steal the bicycles and advertise them for sale on the ‘OLX’ app. Acting on a tip-off that Rahul was planning to sell one of the stolen bicycles at Tapkir Mala, the police set up a trap and successfully detained him. Six high-value bicycles worth a total of Rs 85,000 were seized from his possession.

The Wakad police have charged Rahul with theft and are conducting further investigations into his criminal activities. They suspect that there may be more victims who have fallen prey to Rahul’s scheme.

The police urge residents to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities in their neighborhoods.
