Pune: Demand For Justice For Student Who Attempted Suicide At IISER
Pune, 6th January 2023: Garima Aggarwal, a student of the Indian Institute of Science Education and Research, Pune (IISER) attempted suicide after being tired of harassment by her professors.
Shubhankar Bachal of Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) demanded strict action against the culprits in the said case in a press conference held on Friday (6th January). The victim’s sister Dr Shilpi Goyal and ABVP West Maharashtra Minister Anil Thombre were present.
Garima Agarwal’s PhD thesis, which she had worked hard on for six years, was submitted by one professor in the name of another student. Due to not getting a response to the complaints and being tired of constant mental suffering, she took the extreme step of suicide.
“The incident is unfortunate and we have also given a statement to Chief Minister Eknath Shinde and State Higher and Technical Education Minister Chandrakant Patil regarding the same,” said Bachal.
