Pune Dengue Alert: Warje-Karvenagar, Kothrud Among Areas With Highest Suspected Cases
Pune, 28th July 2026: Pune has witnessed a sharp rise in suspected dengue cases following the onset of the monsoon, with nearly 300 suspected infections reported in just one-and-a-half months, according to Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) data.
Between January 1 and July 15, 2026, the city recorded 473 suspected dengue cases. Of these, 175 were reported in June and another 125 in the first 15 days of July, indicating a rapid increase in suspected infections during the monsoon.
Month-wise data shows that suspected cases increased from 25 in January to 23 in February, 26 in March, 41 in April and 58 in May before rising sharply to 175 in June. With 125 cases already reported in the first half of July, health officials have cautioned that the numbers could rise further in the coming weeks if the trend continues.
Ward-wise, Warje-Karvenagar reported the highest number of suspected cases at 46, followed by Kothrud with 45, Nagar Road-Wadgaonsheri with 44, Aundh-Baner with 43 and Dhankawadi-Sahakarnagar with 42.
Other areas that have reported suspected dengue cases include Kondhwa-Yewalewadi (32), Kasba-Vishrambaugwada (30) and Yerawada-Kalas-Dhanori (28). In comparison, Keshavnagar (8) and Bibwewadi (11) have recorded relatively fewer suspected cases.
Health experts have attributed the rise to waterlogging, stagnant water and favourable mosquito-breeding conditions created by continuous rainfall. Residents have been advised to prevent water from accumulating in and around their homes, maintain cleanliness and take precautions to avoid mosquito bites.
Citizens have also been urged to seek medical attention if they develop symptoms such as high fever, severe body ache, pain behind the eyes or extreme weakness. Early diagnosis and appropriate treatment can help reduce the risk of complications.
