Pune: Deputy Chief Minister of Maharashtra optimistic about new era in industrial relations with Sweden

Yerwada, 11th March 2023: Deputy Chief Minister of Maharashtra, Devendra Fadnavis, today expressed his confidence that the industrial partnership between Sweden and Maharashtra will be strengthened through the Sweden-India Jubilee Celebration program, marking 75 years of industrial relations between the two regions.

Speaking at the event held at Hotel Ritz Carlton, Fadnavis highlighted the importance of mutual cooperation between Sweden and Maharashtra in the fields of clean and green energy, clean transportation, green hydrogen, solar energy, and more.

Fadnavis described Pune as the “second home” of Swedish entrepreneurs, stating that the industrialization of Pune began with the establishment of an industry in Sweden. He expressed his belief that more industries will come to Maharashtra from Sweden in the coming years, considering the favorable environment for industries in the region.

The event was attended by Swedish Foreign Trade Secretary Hakan Jevrell, Indian Ambassador to Sweden Tanmay Lal, Swedish Ambassador Jan Thesleff, Swedish Consul General in Mumbai Anna Lekvall, MIDC CEO Bipin Sharma, industrialist Baba Kalyani, Swedish Chamber of Commerce chairperson Kamal Bali, and senior Swedish businessmen.

Jevrell also spoke at the event, emphasizing Sweden’s long-standing relationship with Maharashtra in the field of industry and the potential for this partnership to benefit the new generation. He assured that Sweden will provide all cooperation for industrial development in Maharashtra.

Baba Kalyani highlighted the technological and digital expertise of Sweden, while India provides a large market for industrial products. He noted that there is a significant opportunity for partnership, especially in the auto industry sector.

An MoU was signed between the Sweden India Business Council and Maharashtra Industrial Development Corporation for cooperation in waste-to-energy, infrastructure, and healthcare sectors in the presence of Deputy Chief Minister Fadnavis. Prashant Agarwal, Member of Sweden India Business Council and Chairman of Serneke International, was also present at the occasion.
