Pune: Directorate of Higher Education Orders Investigation into ILS Fee Scam Allegations

Pune, 22 March 2025: The Maharashtra Department of Higher Education has directed an inquiry into allegations of financial exploitation and lack of transparency in fee collection by ILS Law College, Pune. The order follows a formal representation submitted by students Mayur Garud and Krishnakant Sathe, raising concerns over the institution’s handling of student fees.
In a letter dated March 6, 2025, Garud and Sathe alleged that ILS Law College imposed unauthorized fees and failed to account for the funds collected under various categories. The complaint pointed to large discrepancies between the amounts collected and the actual expenditure, as revealed through data obtained via the Right to Information (RTI) Act.
Dr. Shailendra Deolankar, Incharge Director, Higher Education Pune, has instructed the relevant authorities to examine the representation and take further action in accordance with government rules. Additionally, the applicants are to be informed about any actions taken as part of the investigation.
The complaint has brought renewed attention to the financial practices of educational institutions, with students seeking accountability and transparency in fee collection. The investigation is ongoing.
