Pune District and Other Maharashtra Regions Declare Public Holiday on 20 December for Municipal Council Elections
Pune, 19th December 2025: The Maharashtra government has declared a public holiday on Saturday, 20 December 2025, in areas where municipal council elections are scheduled, officials confirmed. The announcement was made by District Collector and District Election Officer, Jitendra Dudi, in Pune.
According to the notification issued by the General Administration Department, the holiday will cover electoral wards across multiple districts, including Baramati, Daund, Fursungi-Uruli Devachi, Lonavala, and Talegaon Dabhade in Pune. All government and semi-government offices, corporations, boards, and departments have been instructed to notify their employees accordingly.
The public holiday will also apply to voters working outside their constituencies in poll-bound areas, as well as central government offices, public undertakings, and banks, ensuring that citizens have the opportunity to participate in the elections without work-related constraints.
The official notification, numbered PHD-1319/C.R.145/Japuk (XXIX), covers a wide list of municipalities and nagar panchayats across Maharashtra, including but not limited to:
Palghar: Palghar Nagarparishad, Wada Nagarpanchayat
Ratnagiri: Ratnagiri Nagarparishad
Thane: Ambernath, Badlapur, Deolali-Pravara, Kopargaon, Newasa, Pathardi, Jamkhed, Rahuri, Sangamner, Shevgaon, Shirdi, Shrigonda, and Shrirampur Nagarparishads
Jalgaon, Nashik, Kolhapur, Pune: Bhusaval, Pachora, Savda, Varangaon, Yawal, Sinnar, Chandwad, Ozar, Gadhinglaj, Baramati, Fursungi, Daund, Lonavala
Sangli, Satara, Solapur, Beed, Dharashiv, Hingoli, Jalna, Latur, Nanded, Akola, Amravati, Buldhana, Washim, Yavatmal, Bhandara, Chandrapur, Gadchiroli, Gondia, Nagpur, Wardha: All poll-bound Nagarparishads and Nagar panchayats as per the notification
District Collector Dudi encouraged all eligible voters to participate in the municipal elections, underscoring the importance of exercising their franchise and contributing to the democratic process at the local level.
By officially granting this holiday, the Maharashtra government aims to facilitate maximum voter participation and smooth conduct of municipal elections across the state.
