Wagholi, 2nd May 2024: In a distressing incident in Wagholi, a 17-year-old girl was sexually assaulted by two men. A case under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act (POCSO) of 2012 was filed against the girl and her mother, who supported the assaulters even after the assault. Three individuals, including Avinash Shelke, Govind Kakade, and the girl’s mother, all residents of Wagholi, were apprehended within 24 hours.

The complainant, who works in a clothes shop, crossed paths with Shelke, who coerced her into a sexual relationship by promising marriage. Shelke also took explicit photos of the complainant on his mobile phone, threatened to circulate them, and engaged in non-consensual intercourse multiple times. Kakade, a friend of the complainant’s mother, forcibly assaulted the complainant in her mother’s absence, a fact she later disclosed to her mother.

However, the mother threatened the complainant and refused to disclose Kakade’s involvement, preventing her from reporting the incident to the police. As a result, she was placed in a social institution where she experienced distress. Subsequent medical examinations revealed that she was pregnant. That’s when the complainant decided to file a complaint at the Lonikand Police Station.

Following the complaint, Senior Police Inspector Kailas Kare and Police Inspector (Crime) Seema Dhakne promptly registered a case and arrested the three suspects. The police are currently conducting a thorough investigation into the matter.
