Pune: Doctor Booked For Mowing Down Dog With Car

Koregaon Park, 11th August 2021: A woman doctor has been booked by Pune city police for allegedly mowing down a dog with the car in her housing society in the Bundgarden area.

Based on a complaint from a 32-year-old woman, Koregaon Park police station has registered an FIR against Dr Meghna Chawla.

She has been booked for offences under section 279 (rash driving), 429 (mischief by killing animal) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and relevant section of the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act.

According to police, the incident took place around 11 am on Tuesday at Doongursee Park Housing Society, Bundgarden Road. “I was in my flat when I heard the cries of the dog. I went down and found that the dog which stayed on our society premises was lying unconscious as a vehicle had moved over him. When I enquired with people working in the society, they informed me that Dr Chawla hit the dog with her car and went away”, the complainant told police.

She rushed the injured dog to a veterinary clinic in Kalyaninagar where the dog died during treatment.
