Pune Doctor Couple Died By Suicide, Police Investigate Cause

Wanowrie, 1st July 2021: A doctor couple allegedly died by suicide at their residence in the Azadnagar area of Wanowrie. Pune City Police are investigating the reason behind their extreme step.
The deceased have been identified as Dr Nikhil Shendkar (28) and Dr Ankita Shendkar (25). They had got married in 2019. They had a clinic in same building where they lived.
According to police, for the last three months Nikhil ran a clinic in Kasurdi, Yavat, also. On Wednesday, a psychiatric patient was repeatedly calling Nikhil on phone from their clinic. As he was in Yavat, he asked Ankita to check the patient around 4 pm and this led to an argument between the couple. Nikhil reached home around 5.15 pm but did not tell anything to his parents. When he went to the third floor of the building, he found the door of bedroom locked from inside. Even after calling Ankita several times when there was no response, he broke open the door and found her hanging from ceiling with the help of ‘dupatta’. He tried to resuscitate her but in vain.
Nikhil informed police following which ASI Inamdar from Wanowrie police station reached there. She was taken to Sassoon General hospital where doctors declared her dead on arrival. The postmortem report stated that her death was due to hanging and viscera has been preserved for chemical analysis. Her body was handed over to her brother Dattatray Talekar, a resident of Uruli Kanchan, for cremation.
Today around 7.30 am, Dr Nikhil told his parents about going for bath and then hanged himself. He left behind a note stating that nobody should be held responsible for his suicide. After postmortem, his body was handed over to his brother Sunil Shendkar for last rites. He died due to asphyxia due to hanging and viscera has been preserved for chemical analysis.
DCP (Zone 5) Namrata Patil, ACP Galande and Senior Police Inspector Deepak Lagad had visited the spot. At present, police have registered accidental death (AD) cases and further investigation is going on.
