Pune, May 30, 2020: Corona Warriors ie doctors, nurses and other employees of Smt. Kashibai Navale Medical College and General Hospital in Narhe has been protesting outside the hospital premises since morning over non-payment of salaries for the last six months. They were promised salaries today but salaries have not been credited hence staffs of the hospital started a protest outside hospital building today. Doctors, nursing staff and other staff of the hospital are participating in the protest claiming they have not received salaries since December 2019.

At present, 80 corona patients are undergoing treatment at Smt Kashibai Navale Hospital. Also, 60 people are in the isolation ward. Meanwhile, doctors, nurses and other staff are risking their lives to treat them. But for the last six months, these employees have not been paid. So today everyone took to the streets and demanded their salaries. They also claimed that the hospital has fired about 300 staffs who abstained to protest non-payment of salaries.

The hospital has about 2,500 staffs including doctors, nurses, clerks, lab technicians and cleaners. So far, the employees have paid for the groceries after taking a loan from their acquaintances. But now the shopkeepers have stopped giving groceries as they have not got a full payment of dues. Therefore, these staffs are staring at starvation. Yet they are reporting for work every day. However, the employees are saying that they have to bear the brunt of the bullying as the administration is only showing carrots of reassurance.

When asked about this, the dean of the hospital, Shalini Sardesai, said that efforts are on and if the pending fee of Rs 37 crore is received from the students and Rs 18 crore from social welfare office, the process will be initiated to pay the salaries of the staffs.
