Pune, 29th May 2026: Specialists at the Army Institute of Cardio-Thoracic Sciences (AICTS) in Pune successfully saved the life of a nine-month-old infant after removing a hazardous LED bulb lodged deep inside the airway of the child’s left lung through a highly complex bronchoscopic procedure.

According to officials, the infant was brought to the hospital in a critical condition after accidentally inhaling the LED bulb, which had corrosive wires attached to it. The foreign object had become deeply embedded in the airway, creating a life-threatening situation and posing serious risks, including airway collapse, severe lung damage, and the possibility of major lung surgery.

A team of specialists at AICTS carried out an intricate bronchoscopic intervention to safely extract the object without causing further injury to the infant’s delicate airway structures. The doctors managed to restore normal breathing and prevent potentially fatal complications.

Medical experts said the procedure required exceptional precision and coordination due to the patient’s young age and the dangerous nature of the object lodged inside the lung.
