Pimpri, 14th October 2023: In a significant development, the Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation has announced that the survey of hawkers in the city has been completed, with objections being resolved. The survey reveals that there are a total of 19,697 hawkers in this bustling urban area. However, a concerning revelation is that 5,075 of these hawkers have failed to submit the necessary documents to the municipal authorities.

Assistant Commissioner of the Land and Life Department, Vijay Sarnaik, has confirmed that these 5,075 hawkers have been given a final deadline to submit their required documents, which is set for October 20.

Pimpri-Chinchwad, often referred to as the “Business City” or “Udyog Nagari,” is home to a significant number of workers, labourers, and entrepreneurs. With the growing population, the number of hawkers has also increased. The Municipal Corporation recognizes the importance of both citizens and hawkers in enhancing the city’s profile and overall development. Consequently, the survey of hawkers was initiated to facilitate proper planning and management of street vendors in the city.

The survey was conducted through eight field offices appointed by private agencies, commencing on November 1, 2022. The initial deadline was extended twice due to delays in the survey process. Eventually, the survey identified 19,697 hawkers in the city within the extended deadline, which was approved by the Land and Life Department. However, only 13,989 hawkers have submitted their documents, leaving 5,075 without the necessary documentation. These 5,075 individuals now have until October 20 to rectify this situation by submitting their required documents.

Furthermore, a meeting of the city hawker committee is scheduled for October 20, where zones for hawkers will be determined. Until that time, only hawkers who have submitted their documents by the deadline will be eligible for approval.
