The Vimantal police have charged Dr. Amit Luthra, a radiologist based in Viman Nagar, with cruelty, forgery, and cheating against his wife.

According to the victim, who is a dentist, Dr. Luthra subjected her to constant surveillance through CCTV cameras at their residence, and he demanded expensive gifts, including a high-end car, gold jewelry, and cash from her parents. The couple got married in May 2011 and has a 9-year-old daughter and a one-and-a-half-year-old son. In 2021, they jointly established a private company, hiring a team of five doctors and nine other staff members. However, the dentist alleges that she invested all her money into starting the company and buying their house.

Despite the understanding that the properties would be jointly owned, the accused transferred both properties solely into his name. The victim further claimed that while she worked tirelessly throughout the day, her earnings were deposited directly into Dr. Luthra’s bank account, leaving her with no financial independence. She had no access to any bank accounts or financial details. The situation worsened when the accused used CCTV cameras to monitor her every move within the house and harassed her, even involving the police.

The victim reported that she faced mental and physical torture from Dr. Luthra and his brother, Rajiv. She emphasized her helplessness as she has no relatives in Maharashtra and is now living alone with her two children. The situation became intolerable, leading her to seek police assistance when she was threatened with eviction from her home and the hospital they co-owned.

As a result of her complaint, the police have booked Dr. Luthra and Rajiv Luthra under various sections, including 498-A (cruelty by husband or relatives of husband), 465 (forgery), 420 (cheating), 406 (criminal breach of trust), and 34 (common intention) of the Indian Penal Code.

The victim recounted incidents where she was allegedly ousted from Dr. Luthra’s native place in Nashik by her sister-in-law after their marriage. Upon relocating to Pune, the accused demanded Rs. 50 lakh from her parents to start a clinic, which they did. However, she claimed that Dr. Luthra forged her signature when they formed a private limited company and continued making unjust demands from her family.
