Pune: Drunk Man Booked For Fake Call About Flood In Village Near Nira River

Pune 4th Oct 2023: The Pune Rural Police have booked a person for making a fake call to the police control room regarding flood and drowning of three people in the Tavshi village of Indapur taluka. The accused identified as Dattatray Namdev Gaikwad (38), a resident of Tavshi village has been booked in the case.

According to police, the accused had called the police control room on October 2 evening and informed the police that the Nira river has started overflowing and the adjoining areas of the river are flooded. He further informed police that three people were swept away in the river water and asked them to send police and ambulance to the village for help.

The police team was sent to the spot and it was revealed that the information provided by the accused was fake. It was further revealed that the caller was drunk and he made the call under the influence of alcohol. The police have lodged a case under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) at Walchandnagar Police Station. Further investigation in the matter is underway.
