Pune: Due to This Reason, Long-Distance and Express Trains Do Not Halt in Pimpri Chinchwad Despite Demands

Pimpri Chinchwad, 6th January 2025: Pune Divisional Railway Manager (DRM) Indu Rani Dubey has stated that express trains cannot stop at Pimpri Chinchwad Railway Station due to insufficient platform length. Even though crores of rupees are being spent on the development of Pimpri Chinchwad Railway Stations under the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme, express and long-distance trains will continue to bypass the area because of this limitation.
On Friday (3rd January), Central Railway General Manager Dharam Veer Meena, DRM Indu Rani Dubey, and other senior railway officials inspected the security measures for the Daund to Manmad Railway Line. Following the inspection, they held a press conference to share updates on the development works in the Pune Railway Division.
Despite the rapid growth of Pimpri Chinchwad, the region lacks a major railway station where express or long-distance trains can halt. With a population exceeding 30 lakhs, Pimpri Chinchwad has several railway stations, including Dapodi, Kasarwadi, Pimpri, Chinchwad, and Akurdi. However, residents still need to travel approximately 20 km by road to Pune Railway Station to board express and long-distance trains.
This issue is especially challenging for night-time travelers, who are often forced to rely on expensive private transport. Residents have been demanding better railway facilities for years, but the inadequate platform length at stations in Pimpri Chinchwad prevents express and long-distance trains from stopping in the area.
