Pune, 16th February 2023: A team has been established to investigate the election campaign expenses of candidates in the Kasba Peth Assembly Constituency by-elections, according to Election Decision Officer Sneha Kisve-Devkate.

The expenditure investigation team is in charge of controlling expenses from the time the candidates file their applications to the announcement of the election results. The Central Election Commission has appointed Mohammad Manjrul Hasan as the Election Expenditure Inspector for the constituency, who is guiding election decision officers and other officials.

Various teams, such as the Expenditure Inspection Room, Flying Squad, Stationary Control Team, Video Control Team, and Video Watching Team, are functioning under the authority of Election Returning Officer.

Expenditure Inspector Hasan, Collector and District Election Officer Dr Rajesh Deshmukh completed the inspection of the election expenditure account on February 15, and the next expenditure account inspection is scheduled for February 20 and 24.

The campaign expenditure limit for a candidate in the Assembly by-elections is Rs 40 lakh, and a total of 16 candidates are contesting in the constituency. The candidates’ daily expenditure accounts and receipts are submitted to the accounting team, and their daily campaign expenditure is recorded in the shadow register by the video control and observation team. The accounting team records any cash or other seizure from other teams. Accounts Officer Nanda Handal and her team are responsible for this work, and Income Tax Officer Sudhir Palande has been appointed as Assistant Expenditure Inspector to guide them.

The establishment of the expenditure investigation team ensures transparency in election expenses and helps prevent candidates from overspending during their campaigns. The control of election expenses can help reduce the influence of money in politics and ensure fair and free elections.
