Pune: Electricity Department Employees To Go On 72-Hour Strike From Midnight, MSEDCL Makes Alternate Arrangements

Pune, 3rd January 2023: The Maharashtra State Electricity Employees, Officers, and Engineers Strike Committee has called a 72-hour strike after midnight on Tuesday (3rd January). In case of this strike, emergency arrangements have been made under Pune division.

According to officials, precautions are being taken to ensure smooth power supply to all consumers in Pune and Pimpri Chinchwad cities along with Ambegaon, Junnar, Khed, Maval, Mulshi, Velhe, and Haveli talukas.Meanwhile, citizens should not believe any negative and wrong message regarding power supply, appealed Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company Limited (MSEDCL) through a press release.

An alternate system is ready 24 hours to maintain an uninterrupted power supply. In case of any complaints or doubts, Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company Limited (MSEDCL) has requested to contact the toll-free number of MSEDCL and cooperate during the strike period.

In the wake of the strike, there has been a rush to set up an emergency system for the smooth power supply in the Pune circle for the last three days. According to the review meeting held by the Chairman and Managing Director of MSEDCL Vijay Singhal and Director (Operation) Sanjay Taksande, an action plan has been prepared at the Pune circle level.

In this, 24-hour control rooms have been started at department, division, and circle levels with various measures. Senior officers and headquarters will be informed about the status of the power supply every hour.

29 different organizations of the State Electricity Employees, Officers, and Engineers Strike Committee have called the said strike. Therefore, to give top priority to smooth power supply, MSEDCL is providing manpower in an alternative form.

Temporary appointments have been made at local offices, sub-centres, and other places for smooth power supply.

Also, retired electrical engineers and technical staff from various departments of the government, Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) and Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC), Public Works Department, electrical engineers and staff from the Electrical Inspector’s office, principals and students of industrial training institutes have been contacted and their cooperation will be obtained.

“Additional manpower has been called upon to outsourced contractors. All of them will be provided police protection as well as vehicle arrangement, food, and other facilities from MSEDCL.

For smooth power supply during the strike period, all the shortlisted contractors in each department have been instructed to be available in the concerned offices along with the necessary equipment, manpower, and vehicles. Along with this, essential materials such as distribution heaters, oil, electricity wire, cables, power poles, feeder pillars, distribution boxes, vehicles for transportation, and others have been made available in various offices of MSEDCL”, the press release states.

Pune Circle Chief Engineer Rajendra Pawar, Superintending Engineer Prakash Raut, Satish Rajdeep, and all executive engineers including Dr Suresh Wankhede will be ‘on the field’ during the strike.

Top priority will be given to restoring the power supply interrupted due to any reason by maintaining 24 hours contact with the control room from division to circle level. Along with this, coordination is being maintained with senior officials of Maharashtra State Electricity Transmission Company Limited (MSETCL) and sub-centres.

To avoid inconvenience to electricity consumers during the strike, coordination has been started between various departments of the MSEDCL and the state government. MSEDCL Chief Engineer Rajendra Pawar, Divisional Commissioner Saurabh Rao, Collector Dr Rajesh Deshmukh, Municipal Commissioners Vikram Kumar (Pune), Shekhar Singh (Pimpri), Commissioner of Police Ritesh Kumar (Pune), Vinay Kumar Choubey (Pimpri) has been informed about the strike by giving a written letter.

Accordingly, planning has been made to ensure that the citizens will not be inconvenienced in the emergency of a strike through the coordination of MSEDCL and various departments of the government. Also, the Police Department has been given a list of MSEDCL offices and sub-centres. Vigilance is also being taken to avoid any untoward incident there. Police protection is being provided. Security and enforcement officers and security guards have been appointed.

Special precautions are being taken to maintain smooth power supply to water supply schemes, hospitals, mobile towers, government offices, and others, mainly to domestic consumers, during the strike period. At the place where the power supply is interrupted, the power supply will be started first through an alternative system (back feed).

MSEDCL said that since the scope of this strike is large, citizens should cooperate with the engineers and employees providing alternative services. If there are any complaints regarding electricity supply, the toll-free numbers of the central customer service centre 1912 or 1800-212-3435 or 1800-233-3435 are available 24 hours for electricity consumers in urban and rural areas.
