Pune: Electricity Restored in Chakan MIDC After 4-Day Disruption Due to Transformer Malfunction
Chakan, 29th July 2025: After four days of disrupted power supply, electricity has been fully restored to Chakan MIDC and surrounding villages following the repair of a faulty transformer at the 220 KV Chakan Phase-2 substation of Mahatransco (Mahapareshan). The supply was stabilized at 12:19 PM on Tuesday, bringing relief to over 1,200 industrial and rural consumers.
The outage occurred after one of the two 50 MVA transformers at the high-voltage substation malfunctioned on July 21. Although electricity demand is generally lower on Sundays due to industrial holidays, Mahatransco began the replacement process at 4 PM on July 26. The repair was completed and the transformer reactivated by 9:35 AM on July 28. However, it failed again later the same evening, prompting a second round of emergency repair work—this time under heavy rainfall.
A dedicated team from both Mahavitaran (MSEDCL) and Mahatransco worked on a war footing and succeeded in bringing the transformer back to full capacity on Tuesday afternoon.
During the repair period, Mahavitaran ensured partial supply by rerouting the 40 MW load to another transformer and managing the power distribution in a circular manner—supplying electricity to industries during the day and to villages at night.
The outage impacted approximately 190 high-voltage and 1,100 low-voltage industrial units, including major companies such as Tata TACO, GE, Pactime, Emerson, Imitek, Issar, Plastic Omnium, and Bajaj Electric, along with around 6,500 residential consumers in villages like Varale, Bhamboli, Savardara, Shinde, Vasoli, and Sangurdi.
Senior officials who led the restoration efforts include Sunil Kakade (Chief Engineer, Mahavitaran), Anil Kolap (Chief Engineer, Mahatransco), Superintendent Engineers Yuvraj Jarg and Vitthal Bhujbal, Executive Engineer Rajendra Edke, Deputy Executive Engineer Prakash Shelke, and Sixth Engineer Vikrant Varude.
