Pune, 20th May 2023: Today the incident of the power cut at Kamla Nehru Hospital of the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) came to light. It was found that even the generator in the hospital was not working. Due to this, hundreds of patients in the hospital suffered.

For the past few days, there has been a power outage in the city. At such a time, it is the job of the Electricity Department of the Municipal Corporation to check whether the alternative system is functioning properly or not in the hospital. But to date, Kamla Nehru Hospital has been neglected by this department.

Today (20th May), the electricity supply of the building was cut off in the hospital. As a result, not only the dialysis centre, operation theatre, children’s ward number 16, OPD numbers 17 and 18, but also the cardiology department has been shut down since 10.30 am. In this department, there are patients in the ICU.

Interestingly, this hospital has a generator but it was also out of order as its wire got burnt. Due to this, the hospital could not have a power supply for more than three hours. However, due to this mismanagement of the municipal corporation, the patients suffered.

Srinivasa Kandul, Head of Electricity Department, Municipal Corporation said, “Power supply at Kamla Nehru Hospital has been disrupted but it is being restored. Although there have been some technical difficulties due to the increasing electricity demand, the electricity supply is being smoothed out by restoring the connection.”
