Pune: Engineering in Marathi Language at COEP and PCCOE

Pune,  30 June 2021: In a first of its kind step towards education in the mother tongue, Savitribai Phule Pune University has approved four engineering courses in Marathi which will be taught at the College of Engineering, Pune (COEP) and Pimpri Chinchwad College of Engineering (PCCOE).

 

According to the new education policy, the All India Technical Council of Education (AICTE) has announced to impart education in mother tongue across the country. Similarly, had invited proposals from colleges in regional languages.

 

Among these, COEP and PCCOE had applied for imparting engineering in the Marathi language. Both the colleges had also sent their proposal to SPPU for approval. Accordingly, the varsity has given a green signal for three subjects for COEP and one for PCCOE.

 

“Civil Engineering, Production and Engineering and IT were given the approval at COEP while at PCCOE it is Engineering IT”, said assistant registrar MV Rasave.

 

Executive director, Pimpri Chinchwad Education Trust Girish Desai said, “we have created B. Tech programme in Marathi as the students from the rural area have fear regarding the English language. There are about 60 seats for this program and if we get the approval from AITCE then it can be implemented from this academic year.

 

Director COEP, B R Ahuja said, “we have received the approval from varsity, but the course we designed is different. The board has decided to implement the programme from next academic year. Varsity has given its approval for production and engineering, IT engineering, but we have asked the approval for Electrical engineering”.
