Pune: Ex-Office Bearers and Auditors of Vanaj Cooperative Society Charged with Cheating and Embezzlement Of Rs 33 Lakhs

Pune: Kothrud police station has registered a case of embezzlement of Rs 33.22 lakh against the office-bearers of Vanaj Cooperative Housing Society, along with three office bearers and two auditors.

The accused have been identified as ex-chairman Deepak Chavan, ex-secretary Nitin Surve, ex-treasurer Prakash Solkar, auditors M.R. Salgar, and Dhanshree Ratnalikar. The accused were office bearers of Vanaj Cooperative Society, located near Vanaj Company, Paud Road, Kothrud, Pune. The complaint was filed by Accounts Examiner Grade-1 Pratibha Surendra Ghodke.

According to the complaint, the accused misused their positions between 2014-15 and 2018-19, and embezzled INR 33,22,387 for their own financial gain. While there were irregularities in the organization’s records, auditors Salgar and Ratnalikar colluded with the accused to conceal the embezzlement in their audit reports.

Kothrud Police, under the guidance of Deputy Commissioner of Police Suhail Sharma, Assistant Commissioner of Police Sunil Pawar, and Senior Police Inspector Hemant Patil, are investigating the case further.

The accused have been charged under section 420 (cheating) and 34 (common intention) of the Indian Penal Code.
