India’s Press Freedom Ranking Below Pakistan: World of Statistics Report

Global, 4th May 2023: According to a recent report by World of Statistics, India’s ranking for press freedom stands at 161 out of 180 countries, placing it below Pakistan which is ranked at 150. The report lists Norway, Ireland, Denmark, Sweden, and Finland as the top five countries in terms of press freedom. Meanwhile, India’s ranking places it alongside countries like Russia, Turkey, Egypt, and Iraq. The report analyzed various factors including media pluralism, independence, and transparency, as well as the legal and political environment surrounding the media. This ranking highlights the need for India to address issues related to press freedom and ensure the media can operate independently without fear of censorship or retaliation.
