Pune: Ex-Olympians Engage In Exhibition Match At Asmita Hockey State League Inauguration; Trophies Unveiled

Pune, 1st March 2025: The inaugural Asmita Hockey State League was launched amid the fanfare of ex-Olympians and India internationals taking the field in a ‘friendly’ encounter against the Maharashtra reserve boys’ team at the Maj Dhyan Chand Hockey Stadium, Nehrunagar-Pimpri on Saturday.
The tournament thus kicked off the tournament which begins in two categories – the sub-junior and junior categories – which includes 8 district teams in each category from 7th March to 14th March, 2025.
The inaugural day also marked the unveiling of the winners, runners-up and third place trophies at the hands of Olympians Ajit Lakhra, Vikram Pillay and Edgar Mascaranas and India women internationals Rutuja Pisal and Akshada Dhekale.
The tournament is being hosted by Hockey Maharashtra on behalf of Sports Authority of India, Ministry of Youth and Sports, Khelo India, and the Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC).
Present on the occasion was Senior Vice President, Hockey Maharashtra Manoj Bhore and dignitaries from SAI.
