Pune, August 25, 2020: A female doctor working with the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) on a contractual basis is being blackmailed by a person she met online on Facebook.

The person using the Facebook account demanded a ransom of Rs 40,000 and threatened the doctor to release her explicit photos on social media. The doctor has now registered a case with the Warje police station.

According to the police officials, the 27-year-old doctor accepted the request of an unknown person named Komal Deshmukh in December 2019. It was a fake account. The person then managed to get a hold of the doctor’s private photos and threatened her to post the photos on social media if a sum Rs 40,000 wasn’t transferred soon.

After talking to the person for some time, the doctor started to suspect that the person behind the account wasn’t a woman but a man and then blocked the account.

A case has been registered under sections 385 (extortion) and 354 (D) (stalking) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) against the accused.
