Viman Nagar/Pimpri, August 24, 2020: Four photos of an under-construction metro line have been doing rounds on WhatsApp and social media claiming to be of the Pune Metro route near Phoenix Mall in Viman Nagar. However, Pune Police and Metro officials have clarified that the photos are not from Pune.

Senior Police Inspector Gajanan Pawar, in-charge of Airport (Vimantal) police station, told Punekarnews.in, “We have also received messages and photos. But there is no such Metro work going on in our jurisdiction.”

When contacted, Hemant Sonawane, public relation officer (PRO) of Pune Metro, said, “The photos in circulation do not belong to Pune Metro.”

Pune Mayor Murlidhar Mohol said, “Photos of Metro’s bridge collapse have gone viral on social media, especially on #WhatsApp, claiming to be from Pune. However, there is no fact in this claim and no such incident has taken place in Pune. People should not forward those photos.”

Some people claimed that the photos are of Finolex Chowk in Pimpri. However, this claim is also false. “There is no such incident”, informed Senior Police Inspector Milind Waghmare, in-charge of Pimpri police station.

The viral photos are of an under-construction flyover in Haryana’s Gurugram which collapsed on Saturday (August 22) night. Dushyant Chautala, Deputy Chief Minister of Haryana, had tweeted about the incident.
