Pune: Now 2.5 Lakh Rapid Antigen Kits to be Bought for COVID Tests

Pune/Pimpri, August 25, 2020: As many as 2.5 lakh rapid antigen kits will be procured for speedy Coronavirus disease (COVID19) testing in Pune, Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation and rural areas of the district. A tender process has been issued in this regard. As a result, the number of tests in the district, including the city, will double. Meanwhile, Pune has been leading the country in daily tests since June 25. These kits give a result within 30 minutes to one hour.

Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC), Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) will procure one lakh kits each and 50,000 antigen test kits will be for rural areas. One set will be purchased for Rs 410. Therefore, the number of daily corona tests will be further increased in the coming period. At present, tests are conducted on 12,000 citizens every day.

Divisional Commissioner Saurabh Rao said, “Pune and Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporations had earlier procured one lakh antigen test kits each. With their use, one lakh more test kits will be purchased by each of the civic bodies. A tender process is being implemented for this. 50,000 test kits are being procured for rural areas. Earlier, it was purchased from Pune and Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporations at Rs 450 per unit. Now it will be bought for Rs 410.”

Most tests in Pune

Since June 25, most of the daily tests in the country are being conducted in Pune. As a result, the number of corona patients is increasing. In Pune, 38,000 tests were conducted in the first week of July, while at the end of July, more than 75,000 tests were conducted. At present, tests of ten to twelve thousand citizens are being conducted every day in Pune. Antigen test kits are being procured as the number of tests will be increased in the near future.
