Pune: Fake Army Major arrested for forgery, impersonation near Daund

Daund, June 10, 2020: A 27-year-old man has been arrested by Pune rural police for allegedly impersonating as a decorated Army officer of Major rank. Police have seized various fake documents, medals, insignia, etc from his possession.

 

After getting information from a central agency, Superintendent of Police (Pune rural) Sandeep Patil instructed the Local Crime Branch (LCB) team led by Police Inspector Padmakar Ghanvat to nab the person. Accordingly, police arrested Prashant Vijay Kale alias Robost Anna, a resident of Khadki in Daund taluka.

 

According to police, the accused was pretending to be a Major rank officer of the Indian Army’s 14th Sikh Regiment. After verifying the information, police nabbed him near Zilla Parishad School Khadki around 5 pm today. He was wearing Khaki coloured T-shirt with Indian Army logo on it. He used to pretend as Army officer among his friends and had told them that he has received various Indian Army medals, insignia, commendation certificate.

 

Police have seized materials including fake appointment letter having the signature of defence secretary from his possession. He also pretended to be a senior instructor with an SSB coaching academy in Pune. An FIR has been registered at Daund police station against him for offences under sections 419 (cheating by impersonation), 170 (impersonating public servant), 465 (forgery) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC). Police Inspector Mahadik is further investigating the case.

 

The LCB team which nabbed the accused included Assistant Police Inspector Dattatraya Gund and policemen Rauf Inamdar, Umakant Kaunjir, Sachin Gaikwad, Nilesh Kadam, Mahesh Gaikwad, Raviraj Kokare, Anil Kale, Gurunath Gaikwad, Subhash Raut, Chandrakant Jadhav, Dnyandev Kshirsagar, Akshay Jawale.
