Hinjawadi, 26th May 2023: Pimpri-Chinchwad police have arrested a fraudulent individual masquerading as a member of the Chief Minister’s Office (CMO) in Mumbai.

The accused, identified as Rahul Rajendra Palande (31) and hailing from Keshav Nagar, Chinchwad, has been taken into custody.

According to police officials, the perpetrator adopted a deceitful modus operandi by contacting multiple educational institutions under the pretense of securing admissions for a student. One such target was the renowned Symbiosis Institute of Business Management (SIBM) in Lavale, where he attempted to project himself as a CMO representative. To bolster his fraudulent scheme, Palande even employed the logo of the Maharashtra government as his profile picture on platforms like True Caller and WhatsApp. Following a formal complaint, the crime branch successfully tracked Palande’s whereabouts, leading to his arrest on Wednesday.

An FIR has been lodged against him at the Hinjawadi police station, encompassing charges under various sections of the Indian Penal Code and the Information Technology (IT) Act.
