Pune: Farmer Dies In Leopard Attack In Khed Taluka

Khed, 20th January 2023: A farmer has died in an attack by a leopard in the limits of Bhiwegaon in Khed taluka. The name of the farmer is Laxman Rambhau Vanghare (53). The incident happened on Thursday (19th January) around 6 pm.
The Bhimashankar area of the taluka is part of the sanctuary, and farmers are always travelling from the dense forest of Bhivegaon, Bhorgiri area for agricultural work. But over the years, neither the leopards nor the wildlife has ever suffered. But the citizens had expressed concern due to the sudden increase in leopards in a few days.
Around 6 pm, the animals went to the forest to graze. A leopard pounced on Laxman Vanghare, who was following animals at some distance from Bhiwegaon, Visava. After some distance, the farmer’s voice was heard by the two people who were nearby. After the leopard ran away, villagers then were able to approach the body after a while. The villagers informed the Forest Department, and till late, Chetan Nalavde and the staff of the Forest Department were patrolling the area.
