Pune: FC Road Victory Celebrations Turn Chaotic as Two Groups Clash

Deccan, 11th March 2025: Celebrations over Team India’s Champions Trophy win took an unexpected turn on Sunday night when a brawl broke out between two groups amid the jubilant crowd on FC Road. The incident, which occurred around 10:45 p.m., led to police intervention as revelers disrupted public order.
The Deccan Gymkhana police have registered a case against seven individuals from both groups for affray and obstructing a public servant from performing duty. “It was a minor altercation that escalated when a member from one group accidentally pushed someone from the other group,” said Senior Inspector Girisha Nimbalkar of Deccan Gymkhana police station. “The individuals involved are from Pulachiwadi and Ghorpade Peth, and they were unfamiliar with each other before the incident.”
As tensions flared, the groups engaged in a physical altercation, disturbing the peace in the crowded area. “All seven individuals work at various shops in the city. We will be issuing them notices to cooperate with the investigation,” Nimbalkar added.
One person suffered a head injury and was referred to a hospital for treatment. “He has yet to visit the police station with his medical report,” the officer noted.
In the aftermath of the scuffle, some young revelers climbed onto police vehicles near Good Luck Chowk and FC Road, forcing authorities to use mild force to disperse the gathering. “We didn’t impose traffic restrictions, but the large crowd made it difficult for motorists to pass through. The situation was brought under control, and the road was cleared for traffic by 11:10 p.m.,” Nimbalkar said.
