Pune: FDA Bans Use Of Newspapers For Food Packaging Citing Harmful Chemicals

Pune, 23rd December 2021: Food traders bind food items like Vadapav, Pohe in newspapers, thus endangering the health of the people. The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has ordered that the packaging of food items in newspapers be stopped immediately or else strict action will be taken.

 

The Food Safety and Standards Act 2006 has already been implemented across the country to provide safe, healthy and safe food to the people. When breakfast is ordered from outside by the people, the vendors tie the food items like Vadapav, Pohe in the newspaper, thus endangering the health of the people.

 

“Newspaper ink is made from chemicals (di-isobutyl phthalate and di-n-butyl phthalate). Chemicals are used to print newspapers. It is dangerous to give hot food to the customers by packing it in the newspaper. All food vendors, hotels, bakery vendors, snack centers, sweet marts, Vadapav, Bhaji and Bhel vendors should immediately stop packing food items in newspapers, otherwise, strict action will be taken under the Food Safety and Standards Act, said FDA Joint Commissioner Shivaji Desai.
