Pune: FIR Filed Against Seven Walnut School Teachers, Staff for Refusing Census 2027 Duty
Reported by Mubarak Ansari
Fursungi, 15th May 2026: A complaint has been registered at Fursungi Police Station against seven teachers and support staff members of Walnut School, Fursungi, for allegedly refusing to participate in Census 2027 duties under the Government of India’s nationwide census programme.
According to the complaint filed by Tax Officer Abaso Dadaso Mudhe, the Fursungi-Uruli Devachi Municipal Council has created 284 household groups across its 16 wards for the census exercise. A total of 284 enumerators and 42 supervisors have been appointed for the work.
As part of the preparations, census training sessions were organised at the Fursungi-Uruli Devachi Municipal Council office between April 23 and April 25, 2026.
Officials said Walnut School staff members — Pranita Sinha, Ashwini Devare, Ipshita Mohanty, Shraddha Tamashetti, Manisha Hatagale, Ujjwala Londhe, and Shashikala Sidhe — had been assigned census-related duties and were instructed to attend the training programme.
However, the complaint alleged that the concerned staff members remained absent from the training sessions without obtaining prior permission, thereby creating obstacles in the census process and refusing to carry out the duties assigned to them.
Based on directions issued by the Sub-Divisional Officer and Executive Magistrate of Haveli division, police have been authorised to register a case against the individuals under Section 11 of the Census Act, 1948.
Further investigation and action are being carried out by Fursungi Police Station.
